Chris Harper: Welcome to Harvest Time. My name is Chris Harper, and our host on this program is Pastor Gary Walton, the lead pastor of Harvest Baptist Church. Every week, we spend these twenty five minutes together telling you the stories of our church by interviewing our members and other friends of the ministry. We have two services at Harvest every week, the first at 08:45AM, the second at 10:45AM on Sunday. We have Japanese and Korean translation during the 10:45AM service, and that’s also when we livestream at hbcguam.org. Hbcguam.org.
This week, it’s the second message in our four part series, first things first, the grace of giving from first Corinthians 16:1-4. Let’s begin today’s Harvest Time by welcoming Pastor Gary Walton. Hi, pastor.
Gary Walton: Hey, hafa adai, Chris. We had an exciting, week last, exciting Sunday last week as we introduced this series from first Corinthians 16. We actually had our generator go out and, we don’t have any, electricity on our campus yet at that time. And so we finished our first service in the dark, which was exciting, and then moved everybody over to the FLC for the second service. All of that was an amazing, you know, Sunday together, something we’ve never experienced before, but it was truly great watching and experiencing God’s people just continue to hunger for the word and fellowship together.
And there was a sweetness of our, unity as, we’re overcoming this, you know, the typhoon that, came through Guam and, of course, hit Saipan and Tinian and some Chuuk a little bit before us. And, we’re just thanking God for what he’s done, in bringing us back, and we’re praying for our neighbors, you know, in these other islands as they, recover from the effects of this typhoon. All of that to say we kicked off a series, and we only got the first part of it, but we’re gonna come back to it this coming Sunday from first Corinthians 16. The first four verses give us some very clear teaching about, what what is a Christian’s responsibility? What’s the Bible teach us about, the stewardship of the resources that God has given us?
And very specifically, what should that look like as we commit to giving to our local church? The Bible has some very clear teaching about it, and first Corinthians sixteen one through four is is some real specific verses that we’re just gonna walk through during these weeks. And we’d invite you to come and hear what God’s word has to say, about an area that if that if we don’t, if we don’t, steward well, it will steward us well. And so we wanna make sure that we’re living and obeying and following God’s, plans as we as we look at this part of our lives that’s that can really be controlling for us. So I hope that you’ll come, and I hope that you’ll be encouraged.
We, Chris and I, have a very, exciting thing going on in the studio today because we’ve got I think there’s 13 HBBC graduating seniors piled in to, our, our studio, today. And, we want to give you a chance to hear from them. The first thing that we’re gonna do is that we’re gonna ask them to sing. They’ve prepared a song for you that they sang their first year here and has continued to be maybe a little bit of a theme song for them. I’m gonna let them sing that for you, and then after that, we’ll get a chance to talk with them about their experience at Harvest and what God’s doing in their lives.
So, kids, go ahead. Looking forward to hearing, from you. That was fantastic, you guys. I don’t know how, how that sounded over the radio, but I want you to know here in the studio, I mean, I just had a smile on my face the whole time I heard those guys, heard you guys sing, thank you for doing that. What I’d like to do is I’d like to get you introduced to our radio audience.
And, if you can do that by, just introducing yourself, telling us where you’re from, what island you’re from, and how’d you get to HBBC. And if you kinda go through that order, and we’ll get a chance to hear a little bit of your story. Alright. We’ll start with you, Jeremy.
Jeremy Lanbon: My name is Jeremy, and I’m from the Marshall Islands. And I came to Harvest through teachers and families that also attended here.
Daenna Ramarui: My name is Daenna. I am from Palau, and I came to Harvest also because of friends and family that came from Harvest.

Marvlyn Laimaglui: Hi, my name is Marvlyn. I’m from Yap, and I came to HBBC through HBBC alumni that there were teachers in my school, in the FCA Faith Christian Academy.
Kuuipo Bujen: Hello, my name is Kuuipo Bujen, and I’m from the Marshall Islands. I came to know HBBC through Pastor Lang and the other alumnis at the school.

Valerien Otto: Hello, my name is Val. I’m from Chuuk and I was introduced to HBBC through Guahan Baptist Church.
Jarvis Yarofsamal: Hello, my name is Jarvis. I’m from Yap. I get to know HBBC through our pastor back home.
Gary Walton: Alright. That was fantastic, you guys. Thank you for that. It has been such a blessing for us to have you on our campus and and such a vital part of our church and our ministry over these last few years. If you’re not familiar with Harvest Baptist Bible College, it’s on our campus.
We have about 70 students that come for a five year, bachelor’s degree, and they we have dorms on our campus, live here together. We work together, we, study together, and, serve God together, and it’s really a beautiful thing. I look back on you guys. I mean, I can remember when you were just baby freshmen, you know, coming in in your first year, and it’s been really sweet to be able to see God’s hand in your lives. I wish that we could hear testimonies from all of you, but there’s a bunch of you, and we’ll run out of time.
But I do have a couple questions, and, I’m gonna ask those questions. And a few of you have volunteered to give us short testimonies, directly connected with them. So if you can kinda step up as I ask the question that we’ve, connected for you. Question one is, what’s the thing that you’ve liked the most about being here at, at HBBC?
Elisha Lusaha: For me, I say that, something that I love about about the HBBC is working together. We came from different background, but we stayed together in same room and we worked together as brothers in Christ.
Gary Walton: Awesome. That’s Elisha. Make sure you tell us your name again right before you give the answer.
Kuuipo Bujen: My name is Kuuipo. So my answer would be to the fellowship in the ministry with everyone, like you said, different backgrounds. So, I’d say the fellowship, singing together, and also sharing food together.
Gary Walton: That’s awesome. You know, I think food and fellowship go together. I’m not sure how you separate them, but that’s fantastic. Great. We wanted to ask, I don’t remember who we asked, to, come and share your testimony, just of how, how you gave your life to God, if you’d share that story with us.
Daenna Ramarui: Okay. My name is Daenna. The Lord planted a seed in my heart in my eighth grade year. But I remember going home, having heard the gospel then, going home and praying a, quote, salvation prayer. But after that, life kinda got hard, and I kinda forgot Yeah.
That I had prayed that prayer all the way into my high school years. Then in my sophomore year, the Lord led a friend to me that shared the gospel to me. And I wasn’t I didn’t give my life to the Lord right away then, but the Lord worked on my heart. In a couple weeks, I realized that I was a sinner in need of a savior, and I’m very grateful that the Lord knocked on my heart even though I didn’t wanna answer.
Gary Walton: That’s fantastic. Daenna, stay right there. Tell me what God has added to your faith here at HBBC.
Daenna Ramarui: Definitely the ability and the heart, the grace to forgive family, those around me, and also a new family. My church in OBBC, that’s in Palau and HBBC here in Guam.
Gary Walton: Oh, I love it. Thank you for that. You guys, all the time I hear this, you know, you really do consider yourselves brothers and sisters. I mean, Daenna just said this is my family, my HBBC family. I’m wondering if a couple of you would be willing to share what that means to you.
Why is this kind of brothers and sisters thing? I mean, you’re from different islands, and now all of a sudden you get, you know, thrown together on campus and in dorm rooms. What’s it mean to have these brothers and sisters?
Trevor Taisiug: Hello. My name is Trevor, and I’m thinking about that. God has made us in one image, so we are all created in his image. Doesn’t matter what island you’re from, but
Gary Walton: must heard a song like that before. Yeah. I like that song. Okay.
That’s great.
Trevor Taisiug: Doesn’t matter if I’m from Yap and someone is from Marshall Island, but because we are Christians and God said, if we are under him, we are one in spirit. So that is why I consider us here at HBBC as brothers and sisters.
Gary Walton: That’s awesome Trevor.
Marilynn Arelong: It’s Marilynn again reason why I consider these boys around HBBC as brothers is just how they help each other out, like when the girls whenever the girls in the dorms need help, they will always be there. Specifically, the Typhoon SinLaku hit, most of the boys didn’t get enough sleep just because they were watching out for the girls.
Gary Walton: Wow. Yeah. That’s great. In the family, we care for each other. Right?
Yeah. That’s cool. Change gears a little bit. After graduation, what’s what’s happening after that? What’s your plans?
How God, how is God leading you?
Marvlyn Laimaglui: My name is Marvlyn, and my plan after graduation is to I I usually go back home every summer for our church activities, but that’ll be my first thing to do during the summer. So I’ll be working at the church with the kids, bible studies and youths.
Gary Walton: And you’re from where, Marvlyn?
Marvlyn Laimaglui: I am from Yap, from Fais specifically.
Gary Walton: Okay.
Marvlyn Laimaglui: Yeah. That’ll be my plan for after graduation.
Jarvis Yarofsamal: Okay. Great. My name is Jarvis and after graduation I’ll be here helping out with camp here at Harvest and after that I’ll just follow what God leads me, where God leads me, any ministry that God leads me to.
Gary Walton: Alright. Awesome.
Abigail Nagengast: Hi. Abigail Nagengast speaking. After graduation, we’re actually moving to Ohio in The States. And I know some of you may heard of it, but but we are moving to Ohio. And I don’t know what I’ll be doing yet, so please pray.
Gary Walton: Amen, Abby. I know that God’s got a good plan for you and for your life. I know you wanna serve him. Yeah. That’s great.
We talk a lot about core values at HBBC, very specifically five things that, come up in our classes and dorm life. Love God and love others, love the scriptures, love the church, understand our mission, and live passionately. Tell me a little bit about how those core values have shaped you altogether or maybe even just individually. What has that meant to you?
Cheryl Eliam: Hi, I’m Cheryl. So, the importance of the core value for me and for some of the HBBC students would be it helps us understand the purpose of Harvest And at the same time, it helps me and others understand the purpose of why we are here, HBBC students, and our mission after HBBC.
Gary Walton: That’s great. I’m always listening for, you know, graduates and our alumni to say, this is how I’m living out, you know, what I learned, at HBBC. This is my life as I’m moving forward. We desire, Harvest to be a preparation for a life of of serving God and and following after him. What would you say are the, maybe the top lesson that you’ve learned while here?
Jeremy Lanbon: This is Jeremy speaking, and one lesson that I’ve learned from Harvest is to be flexible around the students, church, because you have school and you have work also.
Gary Walton: Okay. Awesome.
Valerien Otto: This is Val, and one of the top lessons that I’ve learned here at HBBC is to serve.
Gary Walton: That’s great. Yeah. Again, I mean, our desire is that you guys would leave here and then immediately, you know, this idea of core value of loving the church and using your gifts in ministry. Don’t don’t sit on the sideline. Don’t get stuck doing nothing.
Go out and use what God has equipped you with to, serve God’s church. It is the future, and it is God’s plan for this world. And so our prayer is that you would thank you for that, that reminder of of service, and that God is God is pleased with that. I didn’t ask this, but somebody, somebody would be willing to tell us about your senior trip. It’s coming up.
Who would be willing to step up? Jarvis or come on. Both of you come up together. Tell us about your senior trip. What’s gonna happen and what you hope that will have an impact on?
Jeremy Lanbon: So the senior trip, we’re going out to Leo Palace. We’re just gonna go out and have fun and just forget about school and the students.
Gary Walton: Okay. And Jarvis, what else?
Jarvis Yarofsamal: I think the most important thing is going out and have time to reflect on the year that we had here at the Harvest. And I think it’s gonna be helping us, all of us together.
Gary Walton: Yeah. And I think you’re both right. I do think and believe. I’ve watched, I’ve been, you know, connected with senior trips for a while. We do hope it’s just a great, fun, relaxing time.
That’s okay. Because we’re you know, school’s hard. I get it. So, you know, we hope that it’s a great time. And then, you know, in that setting, there’s a chance to slow down and think back and reflect.
I think that’s the word that you used, Jarvis. Reflect on what God has done, what he’s taught you, and that’s super valuable, and I hope that you’ll do that genuinely during that time. It’ll really make these last weeks, meaningful for you. Hey, you guys. I want you to know I am so proud of you.
I’m proud of the work that you’ve put in. You guys have served so faithfully. You’ve got great spirits, and I believe that God’s got his hands, you know, directing your life. If you’ll listen to him, if you’ll follow his leading, he has promised that he would bless your future and our desires that you would have a life that’s blessed by God. And, so we’re praying for you.
We look forward to, these last couple weeks. Got senior trip. You got senior banquet, and then baccalaureate in graduation. You guys have been waiting a long time for that, and we’re gonna celebrate well for you, and with you. And and what’s the date for graduation?
HBBC Seniors: May 17.
Gary Walton: Nobody knew. Can you imagine that? May 17. They all knew. And did I say that right? Yeah. Yeah. If you wanna come and see some students that are excited about what they’ve accomplished, come and join us in that evening of May 17. So, again, we’re so thankful to have you.
Thank you for singing for us. Thank you for sharing the testimonies. We’re praying that God would bless your lives.
Chris Harper: Well, and thank you for listening to Harvest Time. Of course, at this point in the program, we always wanna invite you again to Harvest Baptist Church. Two services Sunday, 08:45AM, 10:45AM, Japanese and Korean translation during the 10:45AM service. That’s also the service we bring you live here on 88.1 FM and khmg.org. We hope to see you this Sunday.
Thanks again for listening to Harvest Time.
